Reaping The Rewards With The Tinman Elite Crew

On set with the Tinman Elite crew, we learn about their team mentality, their love for good spreads and what they’re grateful for.

A new running season is here - and running knows what you did last winter. The Tinman Elite crew also knows this. That’s why they do the unglamorous stuff: Putting in the miles. No matter the altitude, weather or terrain. For the shoot of the new adidas x Tinman Elite collection in Boulder, Colorado, we went through the paces with the crew and got to know their mindset a little better.

KICKING INTO GEAR

Starting at founding father Drew Hunter’s house, the team is equipped with the new Takumi Sen 8, SL20.3 and adizero avanti - plus a delicious breakfast spread, of course.

"This is better than Thanksgiving dinner.” - Brian Bazzara, Tinman Elite runner"

After the setup, the team moves to the track to kick off day 1 of production. On site, the team’s training is immediately put to the test. After going through some intense rounds in the Takumi and SL20.3, it’s time to shoot the spikes - which team member Aaron Templeton is excited for, despite admittedly being tired already. Even more excitement is stirred up when lunch arrives. “This is better than Thanksgiving dinner”, TME runner Brian Bazzara sums up.

“They feel perfect. The feel so light.” - Aaron Templeton, Tinman Elite runner"

Fueled by the festive spread, the team moves from familiar rounds to an uphill workout. Arriving at Tinman Hill, the gear is ready to go. “They feel perfect. They just feel so light”, Aaron answers as he is asked about his Takumi Sen 8 impressions. Properly equipped, the crew starts running down the dusty Colorado roads, powering through take after take - battling the hill as a team.

ATTITUDE AND PERSPECTIVE

The next morning at Tinman Hill, we get an inside peak into the Tinman mindset. “I can’t say I was happy”, Aaron says about hearing the alarm go off early that morning. Then he goes on to say: “I could be waking up early to go to some desk job in Denver, but here I am surrounded by mountains and a production team and we're having fun. So: attitude, perspective.”

“Let’s try and get one more.” - Joan Hunter, TME coach

And this attitude shines through as the team keeps pushing through day 2 of production. Even as the weather starts to turn, they keep going and hit a 5:40 pace. “That was nuts. Absolutely insane”, Aaron says. Immediately followed by TME coach Joan Hunter’s call: “Let’s try and get one more.”

BREAKS DON’T LAST LONG

And one more they get indeed, always keeping the pace, before the team gets a deserved break at Dot’s Diner. But the break doesn’t last long, because the team knows: Running knows. When you put in the work, running will always reward. If you don’t, your bluff will be called.

So the team is off to Nederland, Colorado, to test the new gear in below zero conditions. Time and time again, the crew pushes forward on icy terrain. The attitude remains unbroken, even as they are offered an out. “When Dot’s Diner comes back up, that’s when we’re done”, the Boulder born Tinman Elite runner Connor Winter says, summing up the team’s work mentality. A mindset that is built on a simple fact: Running knows what you did last winter - and what you didn’t.
